Paul D. Hibbitts

Paul D. Hibbitts lives in Vancouver, BC and established Hibbitts Design in 1998 to provide his clients personalized user-centered design, interaction design, and training services. He helps teams with hands-on design and with coaching to improve user experiences for a range of contexts, including desktop applications, mobile devices, and the web.

Excellence in Teaching and Mentoring
Paul excels as an instructor in both academic and corporate environments. He has designed and taught courses in usability and user experience design for both credit and certificate courses at post-secondary institutions such as Simon Fraser University, the Emily Carr University of Art + Design, and The University of British Columbia. In recent offerings of his popular 3rd year CMPT-363 User Interface Design course at SFU, over 90% of students who took the course rated his teaching ability with an "A". He was also nominated for an Excellence in Teaching Award at SFU.

In 2009, he was selected to be a usability mentor for a graduate student in Human Computer Interaction who was working on an open source Linux KDE semantic note-taking application as part of 2009 Season of Usability (OpenUsability.org).

Leading the Way with User-Centered Design
Paul was the first User Experience Design Manager hired at Infowave Software, and successfully designed and implemented a company-wide, user-centered design process. His design work on Symmetry Pro Pocket PC was a key factor in receiving 4 out of 5 stars from PC Magazine accompanied by the comment, "Getting started with Symmetry Pro is a cinch."

Workshop Presenter/Conference Speaker
He has a friendly and comprehensive approach to learners and has presented on usability and user experience design at workshops and public events including: Online Course Showcase 2011 (sponsored by the Metro Vancouver Educational Developers Network), Business Analyst World 2010, IBM Pacific Development Centre, the Vancouver User Experience Group (VanUE), and DocTrainUX 2007.

On-going Research as a Foundation for Best Practices
With a thirst for knowledge, Paul stays current through on-going research in the areas of usability, user experience, and user-centered design. He enthusiastically shares and applies the most up-to-date concepts and techniques in the field to the benefit of both clients and students.
